Defendant commits robbery of NW Resources Federal Credit Union, while on federal Supervised Release for 2005 federal firearms conviction

Portland, Ore. - Carlos Manuel Trinidad, 27, Hillsboro, Oregon, appeared before U.S. District Judge James A. Redden on January 21, 2009, and was sentenced to 148 months following his plea of guilty to armed bank robbery, brandishing a firearm in connection with a crime of violence, and violation of his supervised release for a previous conviction.

Armed with a loaded handgun, Trinidad robbed the Northwest Resources Federal Credit Union located at 221 Northwest Second Avenue in Portland on March 13, 2007. Trinidad obtained $8,418 from the bank and left on a bicycle.

Trinidad was found to be in possession of the stolen bank money and the loaded handgun.

Trinidad had been convicted of felon in possession of a firearm in federal court in 2005, received a 26-month sentence for that offense, and was on federal supervised release at the time of the bank robbery. He received an 84-month sentence for brandishing the firearm during the bank robbery, a consecutive 46-month sentence for the actual robbery, and a consecutive 18-month sentence in connection with the supervised release violation.
