Armed Career Criminal and Convicted Murderer Both Sentenced to Long Prison Terms After Federal Firearms Convictions

Stemming from a car stop and encounter between King City and Tigard police officers and defendants Vernon Willey and Richard Houston, Willey and Houston were convicted of federal firearms charges and sentenced to 188 months and 92 months prison, respectively.

Willey, who had prior convictions for drug manufacturing, residential burglary and possession of a short-barreled shotgun, qualified as an armed career criminal and was sentenced above the fifteen year mandatory minimum. Houston had prior convictions for murder and assault. Both jointly possessed a .44 magnum revolver during the traffic encounter. Prosecuted by AUSA Tom Edmonds.
