Armed Career Criminal Sentenced To 170 Months for Possession of a Firearm

> U.S. Marshal’s Service Oregon Fugitive Task Force finds .25 Caliber Semi-Automatic Handgun During Arrest for Parole Violation

PORTLAND, OREGON – Defendant HENRY LAMART McCOLLUM was sentenced today to a term of 170 months imprisonment by U.S. District Court Judge Anna J. Brown, following his plea of guilty to felon in possession of a firearm. McCOLLUM was prosecuted under the federal Armed Career Criminal statute, which imposes significant mandatory minimum sentences for individuals with prior criminal histories that include crimes of violence or drug trafficking. McCOLLUM was arrested on December 12, 2005 by a Multnomah County Probation and Parole officer and a Deputy United States Marshal in connection with a parole violation warrant. The officers were working together as part of the U.S. Marshal’s Service Oregon Fugitive Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of officers from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, and their mission is to arrest serious offenders who are federal and state fugitives.

During McCOLLUM’s arrest in Portland, a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun was recovered from his person. McCOLLUM has prior convictions for Robbery II, Assault II and Burglary I. Following the arrest, the case was investigated and prepared for federal prosecution by a Special Agent assigned to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). According to U.S. Attorney Karin J. Immergut, “PSN’s goal is to reduce gun violence and create safer communities by prosecuting firearms offenses in federal court where serious sentences are available for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.”
